Former Supporters Denounce Pastel Mireles

We are glad to see that one of Pastel’s biggest supporters has officially denounced him. However, it still does not absolve their past and current actions to undermine the truth, berate the victims, and slanders the names of those seeking the truth. – LA DoSS

Position of Committee for Democracy in Mexico Regarding Arturo “Paztel” Mireles

Today, April 17 2015, The Committee for Democracy in Mexico formally and publicly abandons any relationship with Pastel Mireles, well-known for being one of the members of the Danza Azteca Cuauhtémoc. Pastel Mireles will not be accepted in any of our events as a guest, or form part of any of our presentations, demonstrations, marches or any cultural political activity we do.

The reasons are as follows. For the first time we had the opportunity to directly hear testimony from one of the abused victims who was publicly aired on KPFK, Pacifica Radio this past Tuesday night during the Voces de Libertad/Suplemento Comunitario Spanish language programs. Pastel Mireles has not refuted any of these accusations and the recent testimony is more than enough for our organization to cut ties from him. We have been consistent with our practice not to condemn anyone without any evidence, but as of now we have enough evidence to base our decision on and stand united in the outcry demanding justice for the victims.

Equally, we recognize the extreme importance of the victim/survivor to make public her testimony as a historical significance and a definitive element for the cessation of the rumors and the passage of truth. Your pain is also ours and we appreciate that after so many requests from our organizations, an oral testimony has come forward as well as many others on social media networks. With the optimism and confidence in our community to overcome the recent divides, let us remember that we will endure.
